iPod Touch 1st Generation: Tips and Tricks for Better Performance

So you have an old 1st Generation iPod Touch and it just slow and lagging or maybe the battery life isn't that great. Well here are some tips and tricks to get your 1 Gen. iPod Touch to preform better. After reading the tips, you can click the 'More Info' link to find more info on a subject for your iPod Touch 1G. Happy optimizing!

Battery Life:

Brightness- The most basic tip for battery life is lowering the brightness of your iDevice. Find a good medium between a brightness you can see well but is as low as possible to conserve battery. More Info

Notifications- Turn off notifications for apps you don't need notifications for. Notifications can suck battery power if you have lots of apps checking for and pushing notifications. In the settings app you can turn all notifications off or turn certain apps off. More Info

WiFi- Turn off WiFi when you're not using it. Even if you're not on a network using it, the iPod searches for networks constantly. This can drain the battery even when not using the internet. More Info

Charging- Charge your iPod when you're down to about 10-20% of battery life left. Try to keep it on the charger until it is 100% charged. This helps keep the battery fresh and retain battery power longer. Also try not to use it too much while it's charging it buts more strain on the battery and ruins the battery for future charges. About once every 1-3 months use your iPod Touch until it completely dies. This helps sync the battery indicator. More Info

Apps- Delete apps you don't need. This helps save memory and will help speed up your iPod. It will no longer look for notifications for that app and it cleans up the flash memory of the iPod Touch. More Info

Restarting- Restart your iPod once 1-3 days to keep it fresh. Restarting any electrical device helps it and reduces bugs and just does wonders for speeding up your device. It's best to do it every day, maybe turn it off at night everyday. More Info

Restoring- Most people recommend doing a full restore of a device every 3-6 months. To do a restore connect your iPod to your computer with iTunes on it and backup your iDevice. After it backups restore your iPod Touch for the backup. This just helps clear out the pipes of the iPod and helps speed it up. More Info

Locking- On my own experience keeping a device unlocked, no pass code to unlock, keeps the lag down when waking up the device and opening apps. I'm not sure if this a real think but if you don't need a pass code I would suggest removing a pass code. More Info

The tips above are specifically for the iPod Touch 1st Generation. However can be used for any iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad. More things to try boosting battery and performance is turning off Bluetooth, Location Services, and Parallax (iOS 7), iCloud and, Reducing email fetching.
